First produced at the Hudson theatre in New York in 1906 The Hypocrites, a satire on suburban hypocrisy, was Jones's most successful play. It was filmed in 1916 in the UK and again in 1923 in a UK/Dutch co-production. Buckinghamshire-born, Jones [1851-1929] enjoyed success on both sides of the Atlantic, and on both stage and screen.
