First edition. Biographical sketch by Austin Brereton. The contributing illustrating artists are John Singer Sargent; Edwin Abbey; William Orpen, Byam Shaw; James Pryde; Bernard Partridge; Lawrence Alma-Tadema and William Nicholson, with Walter Crane supplying the title page and headings.

An epic afternoon, with the highlight surely an extract from Much Ado About Nothing, with Ellen Terry as Beatrice, Herbert Beerbohm Tree as Benedick, Henry Irving's son Harry as Don John, and no fewer than twenty-two members of the Terry family as various gentlewomen, drummers, pages and servants, The role of Second Torch-Bearer was played by Kate Terry Gielgud. She was Ellen's older sister -- and grandmother to John Gielgud, who was two years old at the time.
