Paris: Carrefour Press, N.d. [1936]
Tall 8vo, pp. 169. Original white stiff paper wrappers, lettered in black to front panel and spine. Bookplate to front pastedown. Lacking the scarce glassine dustwrapper. Chip to upper panel at spine and lower edge, couple of indentations to spine, wrappers age-toned. A very good copy.
First edition. No. 349 of 400 copies. William Henry Burnham's copy, with his bookplate to front pastedown.
One of only seven titles published by the Carrefour Press. When the imprint was established in 1930 its co-founders, Fraenkel and Walter Lowenfels, undertook that every book they published with no mention of the author' name, to merge the artist's '...creative consciousness into the total creative consciousness of the world'. Six years on this idea had lost its appeal: Fraenkel is credited as the author in all the usual places.
The copy of American psychologist William Henry Burnham [1855-1941], with his bookplate.
